Caring and conditions

Caring for your longboard and the conditions you ride in are just as important as keeping yourself safe. You need a longboard that is in good condition to ride on and that is regularly maintained. Having a good longboard can get you so far and last you a very long time if you take care of it.

Here are a few keys things for taking care of your longboard.

  • Make sure that your longboard is always clean as dirt and dust can get inside the wheels and slow your longboard down.
  • Make sure that your longboard is never wet as your board can easily rust up and there is no cure for a rusted longboard. If you do ride your board when it is wet after make sure you dry the board perfectly  and keep it in a dry, cool place.
  • After about 50 rides you should oil your longboard up around the wheels and apply anti-rusting agent to prevent rusting.
  • Take apart the longboard and clean all the trucks and board thoroughly making sure you get in all the corners and cracks. Put all parts back on tightly and securely.

Conditions to longboard

Conditions are very important to consider when going out to longboard like weather, road conditions. These can effect your longboard and the integrity of it greatly from constant use.

Wet weather - It is not advised to ride in wet weather as water is a longboards worst enemy. Rain damages your longboard and can cause rust, even if there is some moist in the air it is still not advised.

Terrain - The different kinds of road and footpaths can have a huge effect on the integrity of your wheels and how long they last. Gravel and stones are a no 'brainer'  as you can not ride on stonesas they will tear up your wheels and trucks. The average footpath is good but footpaths with cracks and uneven surfaces are not good as the uneven surface can damage your trucks and wheel alignment. The best roads and paths are ones that are totally smooth (newly sealed roads are the best) as they provide with a comfortable and smoother ride.

Longboarding is meant for summer. Ride on nice warm sunny days. This is the best way to experience the joys and beauty of longboarding on an open, newly tared road, with a nice breeze passing by and the sun shining down on you with friends. No better condition and experience like that.
