Welcome to my blog about Longboarding in the Wellington Region. This blog will show places to longboard in and around the Wellington. It will show beginners how to get started, safety and caring for your longboard plus conditions to skate in.

Brief History

Longboarding was first invented by surfers in Hawaii as a means of taking surfing off the water and on the roads. If surfing was too rough or the waves were too low, people would sidewalk surf instead. Skating first appeared in 1959 but surfing came before longboarding. Early longboards were homemade and were made longer than skateboards because beginners would found it harder to learn on a regular skateboard. Longboarding has grown since as a popular hobby and sport.
